Project memory and rules
FAELITH.md, rules files and settings that shape every session.
Memory files#
Faelith reads these files from the repository root down to the current directory and adds them to every session:
FAELITH.md,AGENTS.mdandCLAUDE.md.faelith/FAELITH.mdand every.faelith/rules/*.mdFAELITH.local.mdfor personal notes you do not commit
Use them for build and test commands, conventions and pitfalls. /init creates the .faelith/ folder, /memory lists what is loaded, and Autolearn keeps the root FAELITH.md up to date. The built-in /create-rule skill writes a rules file for you.
Settings files#
| File | Scope |
|---|---|
~/.faelith/settings.json | You, on this machine |
.faelith/settings.json | The project (commit it) |
.faelith/settings.local.json | You, in this project (do not commit) |
--settings <file> | One run |
Later layers win. /settings opens an interactive editor for the common options. Some preferences (Advisor, Bugfinder, SmartShift) are user-only and cannot be set by a project.
Where Faelith keeps data#
| Path | Contents |
|---|---|
~/.faelith/sessions/ | Session transcripts (/sessions, /export) |
~/.faelith/worktrees/ | Worktrees from /worktree and Parallel mode |
~/.faelith/skills, ~/.faelith/agents | Personal skills and agents |
~/.faelith/plugins/cache | Installed plugins |
API keys are stored in the operating system's credential store (Windows Credential Manager, macOS Keychain, Secret Service on Linux) and only fall back to settings.json when none is available.
